Driscoll Ranches

Driscoll Ranches

I do a lot of hiking. A LOT. And when Driscoll Ranches asked if I could create a site for their ranch and rodeo event center, I said “boy howdy!” (On the inside, of course). Driscoll Ranch recently sold its land to an open-space preserve in the San Francisco Bay area thereby extending the miles of hiking trails we all enjoy. Everyone knows of Driscoll’s land and their deal with POST (see their homepage) is a much-heralded deal.

Their needs were simple. “We need a site that has an uncluttered homepage, a simple menu and a couple of photos.” This is their final year so they needed a way to communicate the sale of the land, the sale of their ranch/farm equipment, a calendar of events and a photo portfolio. Easy peasy.

Secret Town

What could be better than having a band you absolutely love come to you and ask that you build them a website? Secret Town is a San Francisco based band playing Americana/Alt-Country music. Think Johnny Cash & Loretta Lynn getting it on in a crazy pile with Lucinda Williams & John Doe (of X). They needed a place to send people to hear a few tracks, see quickly what their upcoming show dates are and a booking page. Heck even if you and I don’t work together, listen to this band.

John Parsons

John’s an incredibly talented person. He not only owns his own business, writes amazingly engaging copy for marketing campaigns, and consults with firms on how to make the most of their marketing strategies, he’s also a voice actor, an actor, a musician, a songwriter and a dad. He came to me and said “I really like that site you built for Driscoll Ranches, can we do something similar?”

Well yes, yes we can. The challenge here was to include multi-media like headshots, audio files, video files… but still keep the site clean and open. The best part is John now maintains that site himself. Why should he pay me to maintain it when I can teach him to do it himself? It’s a win-win.
